New power for the Aroostook Valley

AVR 1

ILW RSX11-E618 (GP9 frame+generator, E9 trucks, 251B/12 prime mover) #1, which replaced the AVR’s two elderly GE 44-tonners in 1990 (financed by the PV&T, which is a large part of why it’s an ILW locomotive instead of a six-axle GMD1) during the PV&T’s (successful) attempt to win back the potato farmers who had been scared away by the 1969 Selkirk Yard disaster.

Builder's plate Mite

Dust Mite poses with an eBay find; a blank Alco builder’s plate from the 1960s (either that or a reproduction blank.) If it’s a real plate, I suspect it was liberated after Worthington shut the works down and left them as a large attractive nuisance until GE leased them for some of their remanufacturing work.

MTRR #719 – one of the two locomotives made from parts from scrapped E60CP/DC #454 – is the ultimate DC-drivetrained locomotive on the PV&T. The power roadmap for the PV&T is only AC drivetrains (except for the overhead wire, of course; reenergising 2000 miles of 3000 vdc overhead to AC would cost an eyewateringly large amount of money) so the paint shop went out of their way to paint it in the old (post-ww2) GN-inspired orange+gold+green livery as a suitably classy bookend to the series of DC drive locomotives that started 85 years earlier with class A #201 (still in service.)

Fender day

New fender day

“New” (from a LBS'es free pile) VO fenders on the traditional randonneuse, so I can ride it without getting covered in road filth during the ~5 months in the year where it’s always raining in Portland.

Whoops

Whoops

The aftermath of a car losing control on 17th; it spun, went off the road, then rammed something that buckled the trunk and catapulted the offending vehicle up onto the roof of the Goodwill Donation Center?
