Ozymandias realized that there’s a warm pillow (aka an Airport Base Station) up on the ledge between the living room & dining room, so he shoved Thor out of the way and took it over for himself.

Milwaukee Road 14A (or 14B) sits for a builder’s photo at the Alco works in Schenectady. This is a wrong-side photo – the buildings behind it clutter the photo up – but still, look at it; could any streamlined diesel match this? I think not.

As a result of a fairly impressive ice storm, most of the lower Willamette Valley got nailed by power failures, including our house (there were a couple of power failures; a short one that lasted about 6 hours, and then a longer one that lasted about 24 hours – the latter one was a large tree toppling onto one of the main roads and, unhappily ,the feeder line into our neighborhood – that left us with no means of heat except our fireplace, which I stayed up and tried to keep shovelling calories into the house.)
Exhibit A: keeping the home fires burning.

Homemade bread, not because of the plague but because we go through french bread as if it was on fire and it’s a whole bunch cheaper to make it at home than to buy it at the store.

The first nontrivial snowfall of the year so of course we ran out of fuel oil the first day into it. So on with the studded tires and down to the gas station for 5 gallons of biodiesel.

I rode up to Powell just before the snow started so I could pick up some rack platform pieces. I took the GT because a fixed-gear is a little better handling on icy roads, but fortunately the roads were still warm enough so that the snow/sleet was melting while I was riding around.

Dust Mite helps me work on a set of crashed Dura-Ace di2 brifters which I got cheaply on ebay because one of them was lightly mangled and had the shift paddle springs scramble themselves, thus resulting in a brifter that doesn’t ift anymore (and that had the end of the paddle splintered all to hell and back, which made it a tiny carbon-fiber porcupine. That was easy to fix with some J-B Weld, though I’m still working on fixing up the shift paddle springs so it shifts both up and down.)
