New handlebar day

New porteur-width handlebars for the mountainhack

I swapped out the mountainhack’s road handlebars for a pair of porteur-width (50cm) rando bars that Velo Orange was selling for $10 in one of their garage sales. These are very wide bars for me, and they give plenty of room for bulky cargo & my hands, unlike the 44cm bars I had on the thing previously.

I also needed to swap the 11cm mutant stem for a 8cm “Forte” mutant-alike, because these rando bars extend a lot further than the old bars did. Did I mention that they are very wide bars? Shortening the stem also makes up for my arms angling out from my body.

gravel grinding

Coming back, indirectly, from Trader Joe’s yesterday afternoon. Everything is starting to get picked over, including there; I wanted to add to our pile of toilet paper but, alas, TJ’s only gets 4 boxes of toilet paper a day and they’re gone by noon. But aside from that (and some frozen foods) I managed to pick up everything on the shopping list.

Clutch Mite

Dust Mite with a clutch pivot & cage (from a M8000 dangler, intended for a 6870 one. I’m going to have to chop up the 6870 pivot and mate the (carbon fiber?) hinge to the M8000 clutch because the pantograph is not only angled differently between them, but the M8000 pivots are stepped.)

Cargo

cargo

Picking up a frame to repair (a Bridgestone MB-4 with a broken DS rear dropout; I’m going to have to melt the existing dropouts out of the frame and glue in a couple of new ones that are not broken) this afternoon (along with picking up drugs from the pharmacy, so it’s a multi-stop cargo trip.)

THE WHITE DEATH!

The White Death (2)

It snowed today, but I had to go out to the drugstore to pick up refills on my blood pressure medications. We’re trying to isolate ourselves, so when I got to the drugstore I tried my damnest to keep at least 6 feet away from people and to hand sanitize every part of me that had to touch the credit card machine when I was paying for things.

And when I came back, I had to take a picture to be used as evidence against me.

Annoying sysadmin discovery of the day

Someone managed to infect my backup dns server with the winnti trojan. Dunno how – I guess the version of sshd it’s running had the CVE-2018-10933 bug on it. Siiigh. So wipe the server clean and reinstall, maybe with a different version of Centos, and load up the (thankfully small) collection of configuration files I need to run the slave dns.

Maybe I’ll run dropbear instead of openssh this time.
