Piling up pictures of the engines I used to trainspot when I was a kid

577 sits on a siding close to chicago, temporarily delaying its appointment at the breaker's yard

A B&W photo of 577 (purchased from ebay as part of my slowly growing collection of rsc2m photos) set out on a siding at Rondout Junction because it developed a hotbox while on its way to the breaker’s yard.

Inspecting the geometry on yet another rack

Finally scanned

578 sitting on the North LaCrosse ready track

The larger picture shows (on the left side of the photo, just past the long hood of the 576) the bar that used to sit across Copeland Ave from the shops. It’s long gone, of course; I suspect a large part of its customer base was Milwaukee Road workers, and when the Canadian Pacific blew away the shops and stopped stationing anything other than a switcher those customers weren’t there – combine that with the new bridge that put the bar at the end of a stub street and *poof* it disappeared in a puff of logic.

A monorail thing

A monorail thing

I dragged a thing out of the basement because I needed a test machine to put some miles on a rack/fork/lowrider combo before sending them off to their owner. 700c wheels, because that’s what the fork is built for, and some horrible panaracer 35mm commuter tires. *Fortunately the fork is just flexy enough so that it takes a lot of the harshness out of those tires, and the only thing wrong with the build rn is that the handlebars are too damn high and my back starts hurting about 6 miles into a ride.

I had to adjust the rack (by brazing on new fork crown stays and splicing the legs to stretch them out to match) to get some clearance between the fender boss and the tires. So that’s why it looks cruddy. The rest of it is just an artifact of it being a rolling parts bin.
