A clutter of partsbin randonneuses
I think the most expensive components on these machines are the saddles (and the only saddle I bought was the el-cheapo plastic skeleton saddle on the GT – the two Berthoud saddles had been bouncing around from bike to bike before I decided to spare my butt and put them onto machines that see regular 100k loops) and my total cost of out pocket for them is, um, around $200 (I creeped ebay for the cheap carpet fiber crankset, handlebars, and seatpost on the born-again Trek, plus I bought some paint & primer for the GT and some paint stripper + steel wool for the mountainhack)?
I don’t know if I’ll keep all of these (unless I store one away as a loaner bike for when bikey relatives come to visit?) but I don’t think my pocketbook would cry bitter tears if one of them was stolen or wrecked.
