Pretty chrome – too bad I have to sand it all off
I’m swapping the threaded fork on my xtracycle with a threadless one, and while I’m in the throes of doing this I’m checking the fit for 35mm tires (I’m worried that Resist will stop selling Nomads, because if they do that I’ll have to pull them off every bicycle to save them for the midlifecrisismobile) + fenders.
I can’t do it with caliper brakes, so I’ve got to braze canti posts onto the fork so I can use V-brakes instead. And before I do that I’ve got to sand all of the chrome off the parts of the fork I’m going to be brazing things onto (I’m not a great fan of toxic metal poisoning; it’s one of my great character flaws.) And then when I’m done I’m going to paint the fork red to match the rest of the trek (including the nice red mutant stem that’s been kicking around waiting for a red bicycle that needs a stem) and that will be the end of the chrome.
