I’m not sure how I managed to (a) do it, or (b) not notice it for so long (I laced this wheel up last spring, and have done four tire changes on it (Confrerie->CdlV->Hetre->CdlV) in the ~2000 miles I’ve ridden it this year, ) but I somehow laced this wheel backwards.
I can’t imagine that it’s going to do wonders for the durability of that wheel, but at least it’s hung on this far without exploding on me. And, hey!, it certainly improves the bracing angle on the thing!

Yup, the nipples are angled the wrong direction. Annoying as hell, since I don’t know whether the existing spokes will survive being unlaced to correct the mistake. At least the threads are rolled, so the steel won’t have those nice sharp cuts to break at.

You mean the nipples angle out in the wrong direction? I’ve done that. The spoke started breaking right at the top thread, which is a stress riser in that situation. Once they start going, it kind of snowballs.
