A spare wheelset for the midlifecrisismobile

New wheelset (2)

Swobo Del Norte rims laced to a Shimano dh-1n70 (front) and a White Racer X (rear) – 3× front, 3× DS, 1× NDS rear (due to screwing up the spoke length and having to scrounge 16 spokes for the NDS after moving the original NDS spokes over to the DS.

These wheels are intended mainly for if something happens to one of the Archetypes that are currently on the mlcm, but there’s no point in not taking advantage of these lovely red rims while I’m at it.

Do you find there’s an advantage – other than looks – of x1 on the non-drive side for the rear wheels? I’d expect that to make tensioning the wheel trickier.

(Never tried it because it’s dis-recommended for disc brakes, but curious.)

I didn’t find that it was any more difficult to tension and/or true than three-cross NDS. Part of that is because I’ve been using my tensiometer more recently and part of the initial build is to walk the wheel equalizing the tension before truing and dishing it.

And on this wheel I didn’t have much choice; I think that I messed up the spoke calculations by calculating for an Archetype rim, so I had to scramble to find spokes that would work after relocating the NDS spokes across to the DS. (Fortunately I had the spokes that came with the Zac19 wheelset I disassembled for the Murray, and those NDS 3× 650b spokes were within a mm of the length I needed for a 1× build here.)
