Brain-twisting photo of the day
Gibbs St, shot with my lensbaby, then “improved” with the iPhoto “magic wand” tool.

The trick I’ve found to make the lensbaby work is to completely ignore the official lensbaby “use both hands to focus” suggestion; I wrap my left hand around the body of my *istDS and hold the front element of the lens between my index and ring fingers, like so:
and this leaves my right hand free to steady the camera and press the shutter release.
The *istDS is a small SLR (I think that Nikon has a DSLR that’s a hair smaller than it is, but all of the other big dog (Canon, Nikon) offerings seem to be substantially larger than it) so this grip might not work with a larger camera. I’ve got enough extra reach so I can hold the camera in my left hand and focus it without fearing that I’ll drop it in the process of taking a picture, so I could probably use this grip with something as large as a (lapses into uncontrollable drooling) K20, but I don’t know if it would work for someone with smaller hands.
The thing I found with the two-handed crab grip is that the focus point would lunge off to one side or another when I tried to focus the damned thing, plus it just feels wrong to delicately tweeze the camera body with both hands when I’m trying to get a picture.

Cool shot! I have a lensbaby, but I can’t get good photos with it… gotta keep trying!
