The network connection between home and pell runs through comcast, and the home->comcast->pell routing is, um, kind of slow (occasionally I see it routing packets through Canada for the 4-crow-mile trip between home and pell.) You can grow old and die waiting for vi to refresh the screen, but once ed has given me the echo for /nwa-orc, I can pipeline everything else without fear of anything eating my input.
