A snails-eye view of Mount Hood
To take this picture, I walked out into the Zigzag river, set the camera down on a rock just above the waterline, and clicked away until the battery low light came on. There is a lot more of Mount Hood on the other side of that ridgeline, but the intrepid snail isn't able to see it.
The top of the mountain is more visible when you're farther away, even if the picturetaking is punctuated by the *splat* of flying insects impacting the camera at 55mph.

I grew up in the Midwest, so that's the country I really miss, but mountains, no matter where they are, are really nice to be around. We were looking (with friends) at a summer camp very near that spot on the Zigzag river, but our friends felt that they didn't have enough money to comfortably go through with it.
I'm trying to convince my family to just buy a block of land somewhere and just build our own cabin from scratch, but for some reason nobody is as keen as I am on the idea of scrounging 20 tons of pallets, then putting together a replica of a homestead act claim shanty.

Damn, I miss being in the NW.
